Brooklyn renters signed 1,407 new leases in September, a 10% rise from a year earlier and the borough's strongest September for leasing activity since 2020. Active listings slid to 3,428, down 25% year over year to the lowest September level since 2022, while the median rent climbed 5% from a year ago to $4,300 a month.

Thin inventory and strong demand in Brooklyn mean marketers there could ease up on discounting and lean on urgency messaging, and operators elsewhere have a benchmark for how fast a tight urban market absorbs units.
